A pain in the ACC

چکیده
An emerging theme in systems neurobiology is that even simple forms of memory depend on activity in a broad network of cortical and subcortical brain regions. One key challenge is to understand how different components of these complex networks contribute to memory. In a new study in Molecular Pain, Tang and colleagues use a novel set of approaches to characterize the role of the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) in the formation of Pavlovian fear memories.

The Analgesic and Anxiolytic Activity of Resveratrol Mediated by Different Sub-Types of α-Adrenoceptors of Anterior Cingulate Cortex Following Neuropathic Pain in Male Rats
Background and Objective: The mechanism of analgesic and anxiolytic activity of resveratrol in neuropathic pain conditions remains obscure. The present study was conducted to examine whether the analgesic and anxiolytic activities of resveratrol are associated with α1- and α2-adrenoceptors of the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), which is a key area of the cortex in the pain process, following n...
متن کاملAcute and persistent pain modulation of attention-related anterior cingulate fMRI activations.
The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) has been implicated in both sustained attention (SA) and pain perception. Nonetheless, only a small body of literature has examined the relationship between SA and pain perception. This study utilized fMRI to examine activation patterns that emerged in the ACC in healthy participants and participants with chronic pain (due to osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee) ...
متن کاملPain Inhibition by Optogenetic Activation of Specific Anterior Cingulate Cortical Neurons
Cumulative evidence from both humans and animals suggests that the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) is important for pain-related perception, and thus a likely target for pain relief therapy. However, use of existing electrode based ACC stimulation has not significantly reduced pain, at least in part due to the lack of specificity and likely co-activation of both excitatory and inhibitory neuron...
متن کاملMeasurement of ACC-Deaminase Production in Halophilic, Alkalophilic and Haloalkalophilic Bacterial Isolates in Soil
Strains with 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) deaminase activity can cause plant growth on stress condition. In the presence of bacteria with the ability of ACC deaminase production in the rhizosphere, it is possible to convert the ethylene precursor (ACC) to α-ketobutyrate and ammonium, reducing the ethylene levels in host plants. In order to measure the power and level of A...
متن کاملElectrical stimulation of the anterior cingulate cortex in a rat neuropathic pain model.
BACKGROUND Electrical stimulation is currently employed to treat several neurological conditions, including pain and Parkinson's disease. It is one of several minimally invasive alternatives to drug treatments for painful conditions. A number of studies have shown that the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) plays an important role in the processing of pain and pain modulation. The purpose of this ...
متن کاملAnalgesia by electrostimulation of the trigeminal ganglion in patients with trigeminopathic pain: a PET activation study.
Electrostimulation of the trigeminal ganglion (TGES) has shown good results in treatment of trigeminopathic pain in selected patients. To map the mechanisms of TGES analgesia, we determined changes in relative regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in ten patients with trigeminopathic pain using positron emission tomography. The patients were scanned before stimulation (habitual pain), after short...
